As part of the Library Lecture Series, join Professor Lynn Neal as she presents "From Classroom to Controversy: Academic Freedom and the Study of Religion."
What happens when a class assignment becomes a source of controversy? How does one respond? What does one learn? By examining an assignment on religion and representation in light of the conflict that it created, this lecture offers some insights into these questions. For teacher-scholars, this classroom controversy raises important issues about academic freedom, studying religion, and the politics of being a professor.
